Full Itinerary

Day 1 Monday

Arrive Cusco Airport / Walking City Tour PM (about 3 hours)

Try to arrive Cusco airport between 9AM-12N. Driver will be waiting holding a sign with ACTIVEEXPEDITION and your name on it. Drive about 15 minutes to your hotel for checkin. Your tour guide meets you in the lobby where you begin walking to the main Plaza de Armas, the heart of the legendary Inca Empire, and where the statue of King Pachacutec, whose brilliant vision led to the design and building of Machu Picchu, greets everyone. Continue on foot through authentic narrow Inca streets to explore the historical city and Coricancha Temple, also known as the "Golden Temple of the Sun." See the remarkable achievements of ancient Inca civilization, that include stone arches, Inca walls, cobbled streets, and many examples of exotic architecture. Observe the impact of colonial invasion and how the collision of two very different societies fused into one enchanting hub of modern Peruvian culture.

Day 2 Tuesday

Sacred Valley Tour with Mountain Bike / Chinchero weavers, Maras, Moray (8AM-5PM. Bring all your luggage)

8am. Tour guide and driver arrive at your hotel to begin a 30 minute drive to the Chinchero weavers’ village where local Quechua women demonstrate traditional Inca weaving and dyeing techniques. Continue by van to Maras salt mines, where an actively flowing underground stream evaporates and deposits salt into a cascade of terraced ponds, each owned and harvested by a local family. Then drive to Moray to hike around unusual terraced geologic sinkholes, shaped by the Inca into a landscape masterpiece. Here you begin a 15KM downhill mountain bike ride over wide, dirt roads to the valley of the Urubamba River. From the valley, you follow a flat, dirt road about 5-6KM to your hotel in Ollantaytambo, the oldest still-occupied village in Peru. Pack your backpack with everything you need for the 1 Day hike + 1 overnight in hotel. Store excess luggage at the hotel in Ollantaytambo. Suggested backpack size: up to 24 liters women / 28 liters men / 20 liters children depending on their size

Day 3 Wednesday

1-Day Inca Trail Hike (12KM) to Machu Picchu / Hotel

After early breakfast in your hotel, tour guide will meet you and begin 5-10 minute walk to the station where you board early morning train. Ride 1 hour to KM 104 where you get off and begin 12KM hike up out of the canyon passing waterfalls, and the ancient Inca town of Winya Wayna (meaning "Forever Young" in the native language). Continue to the Sungate for your first glimpse of Machu Picchu (depending on cloud cover). Then descend to the guard shack in the upper terraces to enjoy the classic view of Machu Picchu before you exit the park. Take shuttle bus 30 minutes to the village of Aguas Calientes and walk to your hotel.

Day 4 Thursday

Explore Machu Picchu Lower Circuit / Return to Cusco

After breakfast in your hotel, your tour guide will meet you in the lobby and walk to the bus stop for the ride to Machu Picchu. Begin guided tour of historical sites on the lower circuit (average 2 hours) before you exit and return by bus to the village. Eat lunch (at your expense), then board the afternoon train for 2 hour ride to Ollantaytambo where driver will be waiting. Pickup excess luggage then drive 2 hours to your hotel in Cusco arriving by 6-7PM.

Day 5 Friday

Rainbow Mountain 5AM-4PM (drive 3.5 hours each way) 16,000 ft/4900 m.

Pickup from hotel and begin 3.5 hour drive to the parking area below Rainbow Mountain. Hike about 2 hours or you can rent from a local wrangler who will lead a horse while you ride part way (up only), then hike the remaining distance to the view point. (no experience necessary) Descend on foot about 1 hour to the parking area and return 3.5 hours by van to your hotel in Cusco.

Day 6 Saturday

Depart Peru and Travel to Ecuador

Transfer to Cusco airport at least 2 hours prior to scheduled departure, once in Quito you will be transferred to the Hotel.

Free day

There are no activities planned for this day for you to be able to explore the beautiful city of Quito on your own terms, but if you feel like having a guided day tour at extra cost, do not hesitate in contacting us. We are always more than happy to send you with one of our expert guides to learn more about the city or the surrounding areas. Please keep in mind that there is a meeting at 18:00 in the hotel’s lobby the first day to meet your guide and the rest of the group as well as learn about what’s in store for the days of your expedition!

Day 8 Monday

Travel Day To Galapagos

Today in the morning we will be picked up and taken to the airport for a three hour flight to Baltra and then road and water transport to Isabela Island one of the youngest islands in the Galapagos. Isabela is mostly uninhabited and remains a sanctuary for wildlife, being home to animals such as iguanas, flamingos, giant tortoises and even penguins. Once we arrive we will have check in at the hotel and enjoy the sunset.

Day 9 Tuesday

Biking Exploration

After breakfast we will head out on our next day of Adventure- biking along an exclusive road around the side of the island. Each stop on our journey will take us to leisurely walking trails with impressive views of the different landscapes and immerse us in the diverse ecosystem of the island. Highlighting our ride are stops at Playa del Amor and the Tortoise Breeding Center. Playa del Amor, or Love Beach, is home to the largest population of iguanas on the Island. Lounging about, these creatures are exclusive to the Galapagos and are marine animals, having the ability to forage underwater. At the Tortoise breeding center we will learn of the impressive efforts of workers at the National Park in the preservation of the tortoise population. Our day finishes after five hours of exploration though richly diverse environments at the Flamingo lagoon. Once back in town you will be able to enjoy the golden sunset amidst the gentle sounds of crashing waves.

Day 10 Wednesday

Trekking Sierra Negra And Snorkel Tintoreras

The morning is to explore the Highlands of Isabela, as we will trek the rim of Sierra Negra Volcano for 10 miles total, there you can see fresh volcanic material from the last eruptions of 2018, with clear weather you can also have a nice view of Elizabeth bay, in the Affernoon we will go to Tintoreras, and islet of jagged volcanic rock that form small underwater canyons thriving with wildlife. Be on the look out for feisty penguins and blue-footed boobies! Want to get the view from above and below? Get up close and personal by submerging in serene crystal waters in search of more varieties of fish, turtles, and sea lions.

Day 11 Thursday

Lava Tunnels

Enter a world like no other at Los Tunneles. Famous for its arch like volcanic formations this is an ecosystem brimming with different species of animals and is nesting ground for blue- footed boobies. Possible sightings include white-tip reef sharks, penguins, golden and eagle rays, among many others! Explore the area above and below as our day's expeditions takes us by boat, snorkeling as well as on foot. Lunch will be served on board and after we will travel back to town.

Day 12 Friday

Charles Darwin Research Station

Seize the day with an early rise and boat right two hours to the Island of Santa Cruz home to the Charles Darwin Research Station. Witness the tireless efforts of researchers and conservationist and learn about how they are helping to repopulate the island with different species of tortoise. Although you will see many different types of tortoises at the station’s breeding center, our second stop of the day will take us up to ‘El Chato’ reserve in the highlands for an up close and personal experience to see them in their natural habitat. Explore the lava tunnels that dot the property while watching the gentle giants lounge around in the mud these are truly impressive creatures! Our day ends returning to town where you can enjoy the evening taking a stroll through Puerto Ayora. We recommend heading down to the boat docks at night as sharks and rays can be spotted playing in the lights below.

Day 13 Saturday

Return To Quito

In the morning we will be transferred back to Baltra for our return flights to Quito. Average time back to the city is 2-3 hours depending on if your flight is direct or with a stop in Guayaquil.

Day 14 Sunday

Departure Day

Today ends our services but if you wish to stay longer, we can help you organize an extension trip to places you did not see during this week. Otherwise if you are ready to go back home after an amazing Acivexpedition we wish you safe travels.
